The Challenges of Dieting: Healthy Food Tastes Bad

Dieting is difficult for a ton of different reasons. If it were easy, far fewer people would be overweight. There’s many reasons dieting is challenging but one of the biggest reasons is simple: healthy food often tastes bad. Luckily, there are different diet tips that can help you overcome this big challenge.

Simply put, pizza and french fries taste a lot better to most people than grilled chicken and steamed broccoli. This poses a problem for dieting. What often happens is people will start their diet by eating the healthiest meal possible. It’ll taste horrible and they’ll go back to their regular lunch of pizza, hamburgers, or sub sandwiches. But instead of choosing one extreme wouldn’t it be easier to pick something in the middle?

For example, take greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is low in calories, high in protein, and often contains probiotics and other valuable nutrients. But it also usually don’t taste very good in it’s plain form. Thankfully, there are many ways to make greek yogurt taste better. You can add something sweet like honey. Or you can make it a more complete meal by adding peanuts, walnuts, hemp seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, or other kinds of nuts or seeds. The only limit is your creativity.

Another example is water. Most nutritionists suggest you should drink a lot of water everyday. This is recommended over soda or juice for a variety of reasons. Maybe most importantly, a single glass of soda or juice might contain 30 to 40 grams of sugar. This raises your blog sugar, which could cause problems if you’re a diabetic or just make you hungry or thirty again. But water doesn’t have to taste so bad.

You could simply mix in some lemonade or orange juice. This gives you some flavor but far fewer calories than a regular glass of juice. Or you could add an all natural water enhancer. But make sure to avoid any water enhancers that contain aspartame, sucralose, or other artificial sweeteners.

In closing, dieting is tough but there are different options besides eating ultra-healthy or ultra-tasty food. Maybe if diet books suggested popcorn over day after day of chicken and broccoli, more people would be able to sustain their weight loss.
