Karen Hammerman, a cosmetic dermatologist at Vanguard Dermatology in New York explains this facial detoxification:

“Taking a break allows the skin to replenish its natural moisture level without having layers of makeup occluding it. It also allows the skin to expel any makeup residue that has been left on the skin”.

On the other hand, Karen also claims that you don’t need to take 2 days makeup break to allow your skin to breath. You just need to properly clean your skin before going to bed. Removing your makeup and then thoroughly cleansing your face before going to bed will give you amazing results also.

“Your skin will be just as healthy with proper cleansing, safe makeup, and sunscreen,” explains Dr. Hammerman.

If you want to have a youthful and healthy skin, Dr. Karen also advises you to avoid using products that contain formaldehyde-related preservatives.
