They Ate Only Fast Food for 7 Days: The Results Were Shocking

We all know that fast food is extremely unhealthy but the newest research done by scientists from Philadelphia shows that fast food is even worse than we thought.

Scientists Guenther Boden and Salim Merali from “Temple University” in Philadelphia did a research to show the negative effect fast food has on the body. They picked 6 healthy men with normal body weight and made them lie in bed for 7 days and eat only pizza, hamburgers and other types of fast food.

Even Boden and Merali were shocked from the results.

“Here, we have shown that feeding a common U.S. diet to healthy non-obese men at 2 to 2.5 times their regular caloric intake for as little as 1 to 2 days produced severe systemic and adipose tissue insulin resistance in every one of six study subjects,” they concluded.

They accentuate the fact that the volunteer ate only classic American fast food consisted of pizza, hamburgers and other types of fast food. The 6 men needed to lie in bed for 7 days and they were constantly under doctor’s watch.

“They stick to the diet, and liked it. In that time, the men gained an average of 3.5 kg and showed signs of insulin resistance as well as oxidative stress“, explain the scientists.

By day two, there were signs of health problems. The men had rapid rise in blood sugar levels.

“Obesity is very common in the United States and worldwide, and it is associated with a host of health problems collectively known as the metabolic syndrome,“ they stated.

Half of the US adults are suffering from diabetes or have a potential of developing this condition in the near future, according to a new study.

Many of those with diabetes or prediabetes are patients with high blood sugar and they are not aware they have it, researchers say.

According to the U.S. National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, the majority of cases are type 2 diabetes, which is caused by unhealthy diet and a lack of exercise.

So next time you think of eating a hamburger, think twice!
