The founding member of the Animal Friends Project Inc., Carmen Weinberg, just gave us an exciting piece of news. It was posted all over her social media accounts and concerned the curious case of Cotton, a rescue cat.
Cotton and Carmen first met during September 2016, when Cotton was brought at a facility in Royal Palm Beach in Florida.
The man carrying Cotton shared the incident that first brought Cotton to his attention. The man laid out food for his own cat, but Cotton came suddenly and started eating it. It was no surprise that he was absolutely starving. The man quickly realized that Cotton is in the need of immediate help.
It was September 13th when Carmen finally took him to the vet to look him over. Cotton was absolutely worn down by lack of hydration and was suffering from anemia. He had an acute case of mange and was also extremely skinny.
Cotton’s friendliness hardly went unnoticed by Carmen. She saw how he was constantly purring at the vet while his examinations were going on.
Since his weak body couldn’t sustain any more strain, he was prescribed antibiotics, and various types of ointments for the wellbeing of his eyes. It was important for Carmen to look after Cotton’s overall health, so he was being fed him small meals through the day. She ensured that he stays within the walls of the bathroom so that he doesn’t come near to any toxicity present in the air outside.
When Cotton opened his eyes, they really stunned Carmen. His eyes were of the most exquisite ones she had ever seen in a cat.
Carmen frequently feared that Cotton was blinded for life. His eyes were severely damaged, and even the vets said that even if his eyes do recover, he might not have good eyesight. However, the moment when he opened his eyes to showcase his beautiful pupils, it really shocked Carmen! It came as the most wonderful surprise ever but she thought her fear had come true as well. But the vet said his vision was OK – his eyes were naturally different.
The attachment between Carmen and Cotton had grown extremely strong by now. So, it was quite understandable when Carmen simply couldn’t put him up for adoption and decided to keep him with her! She has been with him from the very early days, saw through all his treatments, and patiently brought him up with devoted care.
There were several adoption applications for Cotton, given his beautiful looks. But the thought of parting from him was very hard for Carmen. She was also worried about putting him in an unknown environment all over again as that would become very stressful for him. He already had to go through a lot to reach a stable situation, and Carmen did not want him to fall sick because of the stress again.
Cotton, being such a warm, friendly, and cute cat, finally found a loving and thoughtful home that will take care of him forever!
