Gym Fashion for Any Season

Numerous studies show that the clothes you wear can affect your performance in the gym more than you thought. Sometimes it’s not easy to decide what to put on when it’s cold or hot outside and you can’t afford to skip your workout. Even though the gym temperature is more or else constant all year round, the weather is always changing, so you can’t dress the same in the summer or in the middle of winter.

Here are some tips on how to dress according to the season and get the best possible workout.

Spring

Springs can be very tricky when it comes to choosing clothes. Mornings and nights can be chilly, while the days are very pleasant, so you can easily freeze or boil, if you don’t put on enough layers. They offer good insulation and you can always take something off if you’re hot. That is the best way to make sure that you feel good and ready to give your best in the gym. Don’t let rain surprise you when you get out of the gym during spring (because it will probably rain often), so get yourself a water-resistant light jacket or vest. Remember to always have a hat to prevent catching a cold. They are small and practical and should be an important part of any gym bag.

Summer

Don’t skip going to the gym just because it’s too hot outside. Many brands today make gym wear for men and women from cooling materials like polyester or other synthetic fabrics that keep your body temperature normal. Moisture-wicking fabrics draw the sweat away from your body where it can evaporate quickly and keep you cool. Those materials are also good if you have sensitive skin, since they prevent rashes and other skin irritation. Make sure your summer gym clothes and footwear are breathable and lightweight. Again, it’s always smart to have a hat when you go outside to avoid sunstroke.

Autumn

Layers are the key here as well. A nice hoodie will keep you warm in the colder autumn mornings and evenings. A light rain jacket or wind breaker should be a part of your gym outfit during the autumn months. Make sure to get one with a good hood, because the rain could potentially start at any time. In the gym it’s always best if you wear moisture-wicking materials that do not retain sweat, so that you can go out into the cold after your workout feeling dry and warm.

Winter

Even if your gym is well heated, you shouldn’t dress like it’s the middle of summer. Start your workout well-dresses, and then shed layers as you warm up. Professional athletes usually wear spandex leggings and sweatpants which they later take off, in order to keep their leg muscles warm. Wind breakers are very helpful because they make a good wind barrier and they’re not too warm to cause overheating. Get some moisture-wicking or fleece socks, waterproof footwear and a nice pair of gloves. People lose body heat mostly through their feet and hands, so it’s important to keep your toes and hands dry and warm. Don’t forget to put on a warm hat to protect your head and ears.

Some people go to the gym because they want to look good at the beach, and some want to lead a healthy and active life. No matter what your goal is, don’t let the elements stop you from reaching it. During the colder part of the year layer your clothes properly to stay warm, and in summer opt for a more minimalistic combination with cooling fabrics and breathable materials. Don’t make weather your enemy and don’t let it affect your performance and comfort while working out.
