Glasses or Contact Lenses?

Glasses or Contact lenses, one of those questions that start endless debates. We will join the trend, and start our own right here. However, we will try to stay as objective as possible, giving you some clear arguments, advantages, and disadvantages for both sides. In the end, we will tell you which one is the winner in our opinion. Without further ado, let’s dive straight into this burning question.

Glasses- the Old Favorite

Glasses have been around for ages, and are still going strong. You will not find many common items we use in our day to day that stood the test of time as glasses did. Glasses are becoming more sophisticated, we use better quality materials, but in essence, they have remained pretty much the same throughout the history. They are now made with much better quality and precision, are more durable, more comfortable, and much more affordable. If you looking for some daily disposable contact lenses, Pure Optical have you covered.

The biggest strength of glasses is that anyone can wear them, they are very flexible. Plus, glasses work, you will tackle your vision problems straight on, just by putting them on. Also, glasses are available everywhere; you only need the right prescription.

Also, glasses are a fashion item too. Today, even people (cough, hipsters, cough) who do not need them, wear them for the style. They wear, of course, glasses without prescriptions. They come in different forms, colors, and frame styles, and can fit any face type, skin or hair color perfectly. In fact, some celebrities are unimaginable without their frames on. And yes, they do make us look smarter!

Also, glasses will never cause eye infections, since they are not in contact with your eyes. They are also quite easy to maintain- you just need to wipe them every now and then. Glasses also help your eyes, blocking wind, and even harmful sunlight. And of course, they are easy to put on and remove.

However, glasses have some clear disadvantages too. They are very vulnerable, no matter the material. Every now and then, you will drop them, sit on them, or mechanically damage them in a similar way. And repairs cost quite a bit, especially if you spend a hefty amount on your frame in the first place. Also, the regular glasses you wear during the day are not recommended for playing sports. If you get a blow to the face, you can end up seriously injured. Moreover, if you leave them in the locker room, you will cripple your performance on the field. Yes, sports glasses are an option, but it is a hassle to change them all the time, and plus, you need to spend more to get them. Also, glasses can get wet, can fog up, impacting your vision. And if you wear them nonstop, they will leave marks on your nose.

Glasses have one more major disadvantage – they do correct your vision, but only straight ahead of you. Your peripheral vision will still be blurry. You can get glasses that go more around your head to tackle this, but let’s face it, which is not the best looking kind.

Contact Lenses – Nobody Will Ever Notice

The main advantage contacts have over glasses is in written in the subtitle- nobody will know that you wear them (and have poor vision in the first place). This makes contacts the ultimate solution for people who simply dislike how glasses look on their faces. But still, if you like how glasses look, go ahead and wear them on top of your contacts (glasses without prescription of course).

Compared to glasses, contacts have some other clear benefits. Unlike glasses, contacts completely correct your vision, even peripheral. Also, you can wear them when playing sports, without risking serious injury, or damage. Also, contacts have no frames to obstruct your vision. These three factors make them an automatic choice for athletes. You can wear the same contacts in your regular daily activities, as well on the sports field, without changing.

Also, contacts will never fog up, or get wet in bad weather. They will always stay in the perfect position, and will never fall off and break.

But, they have some flaws too. First, contact lenses lie on the surface of your eyes, and if you are not careful, and take proper care, you can get some severe eye infections. Make sure you regularly remove them and clean them the way you are supposed to, to avoid problems. Also, contacts should never be worn in pools- this too can cause serious infections, since microorganisms can stick underneath them. And they are not that easy to put on and remove.  Also, you will probably need to have glasses as a backup, since you cannot wear contacts all the time, adding to the total cost.

Conclusion

As you can see, glasses vs. contact lenses is a very close call, and there is no clear winner. But, if you ask us, contact lenses are a better option. Yes, you cannot wear them all the time, and you need to make sure you take good care of them, but advantages are clear. They will correct your peripheral vision, never fall off, and can go unnoticed, making them an excellent option for athletes, and people who generally dislike how they look with glasses on.

However, both of these methods will do their main purpose- correct your vision. Going for glasses is also a good choice- if it were not, there would be no debate in the first place, contacts would be the only, and an automatic choice. Glasses are very convenient, and very affordable, and you will certainly not go wrong if you opt for them.

Deciding between two great solutions is a good problem to have. Naturally, it would be ideal if you would not need them at all, but it is how it is, your job now is to choose the best option for yourself, to correct the vision problems you have. Our vote goes for contact lenses, but you get to decide what is the best option in your case.
