Flattering Your Face Shape With The Right Hairstyle

Have you ever sported a hairstyle simply because you like it or because a celebrity wears it and it looks brilliant on them only to find out it, when it’s too late, that it’s awful on you? We’ve all taken a brave leap to get a new hairstyle that just doesn’t suit us.

When choosing a hairstyle, liking it is not enough reason to go with it because hairstyles suit us depending on the shape of our face. So, let’s get right into it and check basic face shapes and the hairstyles that suit it.

1. Round face shape

If you measure the size of your forehead, cheeks, and jaw and the measurements are a bit similar in size then you have a round face. A layered lob, shoulder length is flattering because it will lengthen your round face a bit more when parted on the side. Sleek and straight also works nicely, giving a sexy look without exaggerating the roundness of your face. Down the middle with waves is a favorite to conquer too round a face. The waves will frame your face and add a bit of length to it.

2. Oval face shape

An oval face is longer and tends to thin out at the jawline, so you want a hairstyle that adds volume around the jawline area. But first, starting from the top, bangs often flatter the oval-shaped face. They can either be long sweeping bangs to the side if your forehead is too short to carry long blunt bangs down front. Shoulder length curls will give you plenty of volume around the jaw line area. If your hair tends to be flat on top, it will give an even more elongated face shape, so at least one layer should be added to your hair to give your face a more asymmetric look.

Let’s take five here and talk about why some people are able to achieve their perfect hairstyle and some are not. If you prefer cutting your own hair and use regular paper scissors, you’ll never get the style you want. You need to invest in a pair of professional hairdressing scissors because regular scissors will only give you a blunt cut seeing that the blades are thicker and quite impossible to cut with for certain hairstyles you want to achieve.

Now, back to our face shapes!

3. Square face shape

A square face shape has an angular and very strong jaw line. Long layers with a side swept bang looks great on this type of face. You can start the layers at the jawline and work your way down. Long hair, in general, tends to work better with a square face, but also needs more volume or soft curls to complement the shape of the face. And you can easily get away with a part down the middle for a more youthful and trendy look. A long bob is a good choice if you would rather keep your hair on the shorter side. For a more trendy look, keep the bob shorter in the back than in the front.

4. Long face shape

For long faces, you want to get a hairstyle that widens the face. With this shape, avoid having too much volume on the top and keeping your hair too long, as that will only make your face longer. Shaggy or natural curls do wonders for a long face. Extra long bangs or blunt bangs also work beautifully. You can go with a very short pixie cut, though it might not be the best on you, but keeping it a curly pixie could work.

No bad hair days with the right style

Your bad hair days can be over when you get the right style. A hairstyle can be great, but not great on you. The end result usually involves, regret, trying to wear it in a different way and hiding from the masses till it grows back again! But all that can be avoided beforehand, simply by knowing which styles suit your facial structure.
