Does CBD Help with Pain?

As research on CBD continues to evolve, we are beginning to see a lot of studies relating to how CBD can help relieve pain and inflammation. Many of these studies have been done on animals, however there is plenty of anecdotal evidence from people who have tried CBD and praise its pain-relieving effects.

Are you interested in trying CBD for pain and inflammation but still a little hesitant? You’re not alone. Many people tend to equate CBD with its cousin cannabinoid THC and get nervous, when in reality, they are very different compounds. According to a study reported on by the World Health Organization, researchers concluded that “CBD alone produced no significant psychoactive cardiovascular or other effects.” THC on the other hand, is psychoactive, and although it is present in extremely small concentrations in the hemp plant, it is found most prevalently in the marijuana plant. CBD is found in high concentrations in the hemp plant and because it is non-psychoactive, it won’t make you feel high. Therefore, by using a hemp-based CBD product, you can rest assured knowing that you will receive all of its benefits with no risk of getting high.

So how does CBD help with Pain? In a study published by the European Journal of Pain, researchers discovered that “Transdermal CBD gel significantly reduced joint swelling,” along with “relief of… pain-related behaviors”.  Although this study was done on animals, it presents some exciting results that are promising for us humans.

In the article titled Cannabinoid Delivery Systems for Pain and Inflammation Treatment, it is suggested that there is an ever-growing amount of evidence showing that cannabinoids, including CBD, are beneficial for conditions such as sleep disorders, inflammation, epilepsy, as well as chronic pain and inflammation. They suggest that it is expected that regulatory agencies will “evaluate and approve CBD as a medicine after a careful study of quality, safety and efficacy data.” In the meantime, it is recommended that you first speak to your physician prior to trying CBD, especially if you are already taking any other medication to treat pain and inflammation.

Finding the right CBD product can be a challenge especially with so many options available on the market.
