CBD Gummies for Fibromyalgia

One of the main benefits of CBD is providing pain relief. That is why many users are using it as an alternative to pain medications. Although FDA is waiting on additional research before deciding on whether they will approve CBD for treating pain, this cannabinoid is a popular choice among the users.

CBD gummies are the latest hit on the market because they present a tasty alternative to some other consumption methods. However, it is important to choose your gummy brand carefully. Savvy CBD users love CBDfx because their gummies are vegan-friendly and free from artificial sweeteners and additives. You get a healthy dose of CBD per each candy, while the company ensured that THC levels remain under 0.3%. That way, you ensure that the gummies are free from any psychoactive properties. In other words, you will experience potential benefits without getting high.

In this article, we are focusing on the effectiveness of treating pain caused by fibromyalgia with CBD gummies.

What Is Fibromyalgia?

The experts explain fibromyalgia as a disorder that causes musculoskeletal pain in certain regions or throughout the entire body. Additionally, it might manifest with mood changes, memory problems, and increased fatigue.

The scientists believe that fibromyalgia is a condition where the way your brain reads pain signals is disrupted. That results in the amplification of painful sensations, which causes pain of varying severity.

Although fibromyalgia doesn’t require any particular triggers, it frequently occurs after infections, surgery, physical trauma, and psychological stress. That is why you will often hear people complaining about fibromyalgia after an accident.

The statistics indicate that women are a riskier group for developing this condition than men. Although there is no known cure for the disorder, you can use different medications to control pain and other symptoms.

NSAIDs can cause addiction, which makes using them in the long run, risky. That is why people are looking for an alternative, which is why many of them tried taking CBD to reduce chronic pain related to fibromyalgia.

Does Science Support CBD for Fibromyalgia?

You can find many studies that focus on the effectiveness of using cannabis in treating pain related to fibromyalgia. Although more research that determines the particular benefits of cannabidiol is required, these studies are encouraging since we know that CBD is one of the main cannabinoids for reducing pain.

A study that focused on the analgesic potential of cannabinoids determined that cannabidiol could assist in relieving neuropathic pain. The research confirms that CBD might work well with other prescribed medications that provide pain relief.

Another interesting research was conducted in 2011. A total of 56 patients participated in the study, and the majority were women. The researchers split the participants into two groups with an equal number of members. The first group hasn’t used cannabis, and others were occasional or regular users.

Those who have taken cannabis for treating fibromyalgia described that they were feeling better after a couple of hours. Apart from feeling less pain and discomfort, they also felt sleepier than those who haven’t taken any treatment. It is interesting to note that their mental health scores were also better.

Recent Studies on CBD and Fibromyalgia

Two important studies were done in 2019. The first research is from the Netherlands, where 20 women who were dealing with fibromyalgia agreed to participate in the study. The research focused on discovering cannabis effects on this condition.

The idea was to give patients the following treatment:

  • Bedrocan – 100 milligrams of cannabis that contains a high quantity of THC and a low quantity of CBD.
  • Bedrolite – 200 milligrams of cannabis that contains a low quantity of THC and a high quantity of CBD.
  • Bediol – 200 milligrams of a cannabis strain that contains a high quantity of both THC and CBD.
  • Placebo – a treatment that doesn’t contain any THC or CBD.

According to the participant’s descriptions, some of them felt similar levels of pain after taking a placebo, and after taking some of the treatments mentioned above. However, 18 participants reported that spontaneous pain was reduced by approximately 30% after taking Bediol. That is significantly higher than 11 users who reported a 30% improvement after taking a placebo.

It is also interesting to note that Bedrocan and Bediol increased the threshold for the pain among the participants, especially when compared to the placebo.

Another important research was recently done in Israel. The task of the researchers was to investigate the safety and efficacy of medical cannabis in treating fibromyalgia. The majority of participants were female, and the treatment included various doses, delivery methods, and cannabis strains.

The treatment began with a small medical cannabis dose, but the nurses increased it over time. The median approved dose began at 670 milligrams daily. In six months, it reached 1,000 milligrams per day. At the same time, the CBD dose was 39 milligrams daily, and THC dose was 140 milligrams per day. The problem is that the participants used no less than 14 strains, which made it difficult to keep exact track of the results.

Additionally, only 70% of those who started the study finished it. More than half of the participants (52.5%) reported high pain levels at the beginning of treatment. After six months, 7.9% of participants who followed the treatment reported the same level of pain. All the others were saying that the pain has reduced. Also, the research confirmed that medical cannabis was safe and didn’t cause any side effects during treatment.
