Montana Lower and Tom Linwood from Byron Bay claim that the use EC-elimination communication with their 15-month old daughter and that she hasn’t used a diaper since she was 2 weeks old. The lovely couple made a YouTube video about how they used EC to teach their baby and they also share amazing tips and tricks for parents who want to try this method.
“It is listening to your baby for when they want to go to the toilet, and taking them to the toilet instead of going in their nappy. Every mum knows when their baby is hungry and they have cues for that and they have the same cues when they need to go to the toilet. It’s just about listening and watching for it,” explain the couple.
When the baby’s mother first heard about EC, she thought it was a little crazy but, after researching, she learned that this method has been used all over the world. The couple admits that they still sometimes use diapers, but they claim that they’ve drastically cut down the amount. They claim that it’s a lot cleaner if you just take your baby to the toilet.
The parents also point out the fact that they don’t need to unteach their baby from using diapers since she’s used to not wearing diapers.
If you’re interested in trying this method, the parents claim that the best way to start it in summer, because kids are wearing less clothes then. Dress your baby in something light, or in something that you can take off easily.
“Another good thing to do is get a potty, we started off with a Tupperware container. This is also really good to put in the boot if your car when you’re out and about so you can pull over at any time and chuck baby on the toilet. We recommend setting aside one day, Blue took one day to learn she needed to go toilet in the Tupperware container. Then after that it was up to us to read the signs,” explains the pair.
Montana adds that you should take your baby to the toilet even if there’s a maybe sign. After a while, your baby will find a way to signal that it needs to use the potty. Baby Blue was only 2 weeks old when she got potty trained and the parents were thrilled. The couple also emphasizes that EC works best when someone is with the baby all the time and claim that babies are never too young to learn.
