A Compound Found in Psychedelic Mushrooms Can Grow and Repair Brain Cells

Psilocybic mushrooms or “magic mushrooms” are a natural plant that can help you treat mental illness, depression and improve cognition. Unfortunately, these mushrooms, just like marijuana, are banned by the U.S Government.

A research made from the University of South Florida shows that the active compound found in these psychedelic mushrooms-psilocybin, is a potentially the best treatment for mental illness.

Psilocybin can bind to the receptors in the brain that stimulate growth and healing. The research done on mice has showed that the compound actually repaired the damaged brain cells and relived and cured depression.

“The proposition that psilocybin impacts cognition and stimulates hippocampal neurogenesis is based on extensive evidence that serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT) acting on specific 5-HT receptor sub-types (most likely the 5-HT2A receptor) is involved in the regulation of neurogenesis in hippocampus. The in vitro and in vivo animal data is compelling enough to explore whether psilocybin will enhance neurogenesis and result in measurable improvements in learning,” explains Dr. Sanchez-Ramos, the lead researcher.

Psilocybin is called to be a “nootropic” agent that can improve hippocampus health. The hippocampus is responsible for learning and for converting short-term memory to long-term memory. Psilocybin makes your brain healthier and sharper.

Unfortunately, the research for these psychedelic mushrooms is limited since they’re known to cause hallucinations. The U. S Government is convinced that the mushrooms don’t have any medicinal value, just like marijuana and that’s why these two plants are prohibited.
