George was doing the plank in front of hundreds of people who came to give him support at the Oceanside Pier amphitheater. At 2 p.m. Hood broke the record and got standing ovations from the crowd.

“I’m a little sore and a little stiff. My feet and upper body are pretty sore, actually the whole body. It’s a total body exercise,“ said Hood right after breaking the record.

Hood managed to balance on his forearms and toes for 5 hours and 15 minutes. His supporting crew constantly talked to him during the marathon and applied ice water to his sore arms. This is not Hood’s first world record, he held 3 world records for plank until he was upstaged last year. Hood also holds the World record for spin cycle riding and jump roping.

The “planking” record set before had been 4 hours and 26 minutes by a Chinese police officer.
