4 Cosmetic Treatments That’ll Leave Your Under-Eye Bags at the Door

Bags. We use them for shopping (fun), pack them for a vacation or getaway (fun), and develop them below our eyes as we age (not so fun). Having loose skin and discoloration below your eyes can make you look tired, aged, and just plain worn out. So what options do you have to freshen up your eyes and show the world how vibrant you really feel?

Here are some of the top surgical and non-surgical treatments for bags under the eyes.

Lower Blepharoplasty

This is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess skin and fat from the lower eyelids. Also known as lower eyelid surgery, it can be done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia, depending on what Dr. Kolder determines to be the best approach. The procedure typically takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete and recovery time can range from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the individual and whether any other facial procedures or treatments are performed simultaneously.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

This is a non-surgical treatment that uses lasers to remove the outer layers of skin, stimulating collagen production and improving the appearance of bags under the eyes. The treatment can be completed right in our office and usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour. Recovery time is typically minimal, with most people returning to their normal activities within a few days.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers such as Juvéderm® and Restylane® are used to add volume to the skin and smooth out wrinkles and fine lines. They can be used to treat bags under the eyes by filling in the area under the eyes, which can help to smooth out the appearance of bags and make the eyes look more youthful. Fillers take only minutes to administer and the results last about 6 months on average. There is no downtime needed following dermal filler injections.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX works by relaxing the muscles that cause certain types of wrinkles. It can’t treat under-eye bags themselves, but it works wonders on the “crow’s feet” that most people have on the sides of their eyes. If you’re treating your under-eye bags, why not refresh your complete eye area? BOTOX takes minutes to perform and results last several months.
