2019 Interior Design Trends

The new year is upon us and it’s time to start thinking of fresh looks for the home. 2019 is set to deliver inspired interior design ideas that give you the opportunity to enhance your living space and introduce some fresh looks around the home.

If you want to see in the new year with a revamped home, here are some key décor trends that you can incorporate.

Boho is Back

We’ve had minimal designs and muted neutral colours for some time now. Now, we’ve moved on from the days when just one fabric or hue formed the basis for the whole space, and instead we’re mixing things up next year as vibrant boho detailing takes centre stage. Patterns like these by Direct Blinds are making their return, and layered, expressive accessories and fanciful bright furniture is replacing the quieter tones that have dominated colour palettes up to now.

Passamenterie Makes Everything Pretty

To complement the return of boho, tasselled passementerie and quirky braids are back in fashion. Channel the ’70s by taking your pick from bright colours and unusual shapes in order to make this a fun addition around the home.

Under the Sea

Take the plunge with some ocean-inspired designs. Scale tiles around the bathroom or even the kitchen are a wonderful way to nod to this trend. If you feel you’re not quite ready to fully embrace this fishy trend, however, scalloped seating is a chic way to access this trend.

Go Luxe

Luxurious fabrics are also big news in 2019. Take a seat on a soft sofa made from the smoothest crushed velvets and enjoy how it is complemented by regal metallics, such as copper, silver and deep yellow gold. You can also nod to the trend with some marble. Elegant and sleek, it brilliantly brings the rich fabrics and metals together, adding to the opulence of this look.

Mixed-Up Metals

Combine metals to add a chic effect. Two or three metallics will be accentuating rooms in 2019, and we’ll see curtains in deep gold mixed with dark iron hues or clashing bronze with silver.

By mixing a few metals, you can subtly bring a colour scheme together. Avoid adding too many mixtures of metals, though. Too many can throw things off-balance.

Add Some Drama

Bold colours will be big in the new year. Go for a dark blue or sea green to nod to the ocean trend, too so that you’re ticking two trend boxes at once. These vibrant colours may be dramatic but keep everything else neutral in the room to allow the walls to make an impact. You have to commit, though. Feature walls have lost favour in recent years and now is the time to commit to the more boisterous colours.
