Weights in the Gym Have 362 Times More Bacteria Than a Toilet Seat

The next time you decide to work on your body shape, choose your gym wisely!

The weights and every piece of equipment found in the gyms contain millions of bacteria and can cause lung inflammation or sepsis.

From cardio exercises to training rooms, gyms offer a wide range of service and equipment. Unfortunately, when it comes to hygiene, that same equipment that can help you tone your body- can also expose you to dangerous bacteria.
Weights are the most dangerous piece of gym equipment. Each time you grab a weight or you touch the screen on the treadmill, you get in touch with bacteria that cause lung inflammation or sepsis.

Researchers from FitRate took examples from 27 different pieces of gym equipment and discovered that each piece is covered with millions of bacteria.

An exercise bike has 39 times more bacteria than a plastic cafeteria tray, an average treadmill has 74 times more bacteria than a water faucet in a public restroom and weights have 362 times more bacteria than a toilet seat. All three types of equipment were also found to contain gram positive-cocci, bacteria that cause skin infections and diseases. They also contain gram-negative rods – which can cause infection and resist antibiotics and gram-positive rods, which aren’t as harmful to humans but can occasionally cause infections.

The researchers also proved that these exercising tools contain Bacillus, bacteria that causes ear, eye and respiratory infections.

So next time you’ll decide to get in shape, choose your gym wisely. The only thing that we would want you to get from those gyms is muscles not infections!

Advice: Never walk barefoot in the gym, avoid touching your face, always wash your hands and immediately change your gym clothes after a workout.
