If you’re one of those women who are captivated by Monroe’s bombshell look, here are the Marilyn’s 5 best secrets, in her own words:

1. Skip the Sun, Try the Cold Cream

“Despite its great vogue in California, I don’t think suntanned skin is any more attractive… or any healthier, for that matter. I’m personally opposed to a deep tan because I like to feel blond all over.”

To achieve her glow, Marilyn applied Nivea cream or Vaseline under her makeup. Her dermatologist Erno Enzo also made her botanical balm-formula 3-9 that helped her scars heal and a moisturizer -Active Phelityl Cream.

2. Embrace Your Inner Blonde

“In Hollywood, a girl’s virtue is much less important than her hairdo.”

Marilyn’s signature shade of platinum is called “Pillow case white”. She applied peroxide and bleached her highlights every 3 weeks. Marilyn also used Johnson’s Baby Powder on her roots to minimize washes.

3. 5 drops of Chanel No. 5

“You know, they ask me questions. Just an example: What do I wear to bed? . . . So I said, ‘Chanel No. 5,’ because it’s the truth!”

Monroe always used 5 drops of Chanel No. 5 before going to bed. She loved the perfume so much that she even added the fragrance to her ice baths.

4. Take Your Beauty Sleep to the Next Level

“I have never been able to wear pajamas or creepy nightgowns; they disturb my sleep.”

Marilyn plunged her face in a bowl of hot water every night before going to bed and then she would sleep from 5-10 hours in an extra white single bed.

“On Sunday, which is my one day of total leisure, I sometimes take two hours to wake up, luxuriating in every last moment of drowsiness,” Marilyn told Pageant magazine of savoring her restorative weekend rest.

5. Work Out Strategically—But Not Too Much

“I don’t count rhythmically like the exercise people on the radio; I couldn’t stand exercise if I had to feel regimented about it.”

Marilyn had a simple, bust firming routine.

She lifted two 5-pound weight above her head 15 times from a “spread-eagle arm position,” then a second set repeated with her arms above the head, and again at a 45-degree angle. She did exercises every morning until she got tired.
