Prevent and Cure Your Baby’s Diaper Rash

Diaper rash is not a serious medical problem, but it can cause your baby huge discomfort. Diaper rash is actually an inflammation of the skin. It can be cause by so many things but it can be mainly caused by leaving a wet or dirty diaper on too long, yeast infection, bacterial infection, humid weather, rubbing against the diaper etc. Diarrhea and sleeping in poopy diapers can also lead to diaper rash.

The good news about this condition is that can be cured for a few days. Here’s how you can cure and prevent your baby’s diaper rash:

1. Get the Diaper Off 

A diaper hold feces and urine and it’s a moist environment that attracts bacteria and fungus. The best way to prevent diaper rash and protect your baby’s soft skin is to let your baby be bare-bottom anytime you can. This way you’ll allow your baby’s skin to breath.

2. Change the Diaper Often

Always make sure that your baby’s diaper is clean and dry to avoid any rash. Change his diaper frequently.

3. Use Baby Friendly Products

Use creams, soaps and shampoos especially designed for baby’s sensitive skin. Don’t use products that contain phenol, methyl salicylate, benzoin tincture. Also remember to clean your baby’s towels, clothes and diapers separately, with a product especially designed for babies. Detergents can sometimes cause rashes.

4. Stop Using Powder

Although women have use powder for many years, studies have shown that inhaling talk powder can be dangerous for your baby’s health. Also powders can increase the growth of yeast that can cause rashes. So stop using the powder!

5. Try the Vinegar Solution

Urine is alkaline and it can burn the skin. Add ½ cup white vinegar in the water you use to wash your baby’s diapers. You can also wiping your baby’s but with a solution made with 8 parts water-1 part vinegar.

6. Natural Products to Cure Diaper Rash

– Baking Soda: Add 2tbsp. of baking soda in your baby’s tub and wash his bottom 3 times a day.
-Oatmeal: Add 1tbsp. of dry oatmeal in your baby’s bath. It will sooth his rash.
– Maalox: Apply some Maalox with a cotton bud to the irritated skin. It will cool the irritation and neutralize the acids.
