Last year, 1.5 million people were diagnosed with cancer. People have started questioning if the foods they’re eating can be the cause. We all eat foods with questionable ingredients every day and that raises the question – Is the food that we eat slowly killing us? Here is a short list of foods confirmed to be cancer causing.

1. White Flour

After it has been processed, white flour loses all nutritive value and it gets chemically whitened with chlorine. The Organization for Protecting the Environment claims that chlorine is dangerous and lethal. When we eat white sugar or white flour (high glycemic index foods) the body releases insulin accompanied by the release of IGF (Insulin-like growth factor) to allow the glucose to enter the cells to stimulate cell growth. Insulin and IGF promote cell growth as well as trigger inflammation in the system. This acts as a fertilizer for tumors.

2. Microwave Popcorn

We all love popcorn and the microwave varieties are so much easier to prepare. Unfortunately, microwave popcorn bags contain perfluorooctanoic acid. This chemical substance can cause infertility; kidney, bladder, liver and pancreatic cancer.

3. Artificial Sweeteners

If you’re trying to avoid sugar, if you’re on a diet or if you’re diabetic then you may be incorporating artificial sweeteners into your diet. Many studies have shown that people who use artificial sweeteners gain weight faster and can’t control their blood sugar levels. Some artificial sweeteners contain the toxin called DPK that can cause brain tumors.

4. Processed Meat Products

Hot dogs, bacon and sausages contain huge amounts of salt and chemicals. One study has shown that people who eat processed meat products every day have a 43% chances of dying prematurely. Another study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that of more than 190,000 people, those with the highest intake of processed meats were at a 68 percent increased risk of pancreatic cancer compared to those who ate the least amount of processed meats.

5. Chips

Many people love this tasty snack but chips contains huge amounts of fats and calories and it can cause heart problems and other disease. Changing the chemical structure of many natural foods, such as exposing them to high heat can promote cancer. Acrylamide is a chemical that naturally forms in certain foods, particularly plant-based foods that are rich in carbohydrates and low in protein, during processing or cooking at high temperatures.

6. Red Meat

Small amounts of red meat in moderation can be beneficial for your health if it come from organic grass-fed sources, however conventional red meat is toxic to your health. Genes involved in digesting red meat is also highly active in cells taken from prostate cancer tumors. A study from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) researchers found that red meat consumption is associated with an increased risk of total, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality.
