Bullied 8-year Old Boy Grew Out His Hair so He Could Donate It to Children With Cancer

Christian McPhilamy is an 8-year old boy who grew out his hair for 2 years just so he could donate it to children that lost their hair due to chemotherapy.

Two years ago, Christian and his mother Deeanna Thomas were watching TV when they saw a commercial for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for children diagnosed with cancer. Christian was stunned.

The next night Christian started researching the Internet, looking for more information about St. Jude hospital when he saw an ad for hair donation. He didn’t know what that meant so his mother explained that people can donate their hair to help patients that suffered from hair loss due to chemotherapy.

“He said: I really want to do it. I was amazed by his reaction. Usually when Christian sets his mind to something, he pretty much goes with it. He doesn’t let anything falter his goals. I was pretty confident that he was actually going to follow through with it,” explains his mother.

Christian was even bullied. Kids were calling him ugly names or calling him a girl.

“He has endured an awful lot of criticism, and yes even bullying, throughout this time. From his peers calling him a girl to even coaches and family friends telling him he should cut it or offering him money to,” says Deeanna.

In 2 years, Christian grew out his hair and donated 10 inches of hair.

“Christian has a huge heart. I am one proud mommy,” said his mother.
