A Dog Travels 8 Miles Every Day to Feed Her Family

Dogs are our best friends and that their loyalty and love makes our life special. This story will melt your heart and prove that dogs truly love unconditionally. This is the story about Lilica, a dog that was abandoned when she was a puppy. Lilica grew in a junkyard in Brazil with her junkyard family: a cat, a few chickens, a dog and a mule. Her caretaker fed her every day but once Lilica got older she had to find food for herself. Lilica became a proud momma of 8 puppies but that meant she needed to find more food to keep her puppies alive.

Lilica started going out in search of food for her and her junkyard family and luckily, she came across the kindest dog lover Lucia Helena de Souza.

“She walked and sniffed the garbage bins – that called my attention. I thought she was homeless because she was searching for food. It was then that I offered her some food. One day, she stopped eating, grabbed the open food bag and ran away with it. And the food was dropping from the bag along the way. Then, the following day when she finished eating I tied the bag. And she took it. From there on, that’s how we do it. I tie up the bag before she arrives, and she carries it away with her,” explains Lucia.

From that moment on, Lilica every day travels 8 miles to get to Lucia’s home to collect the food for her and her family.

The junkyard caretaker arranged Lilica’s puppies to be adopted but that didn’t stop Lilica going out to get food.
For the past 3 years, Lilica walks 8 miles every day, from the junkyard to Lucia’s home to get food for her junkyard family.

“I don’t travel, I don’t go to places and stay for too long because of her. I know she relies on me, so it’s a commitment that I have with her, and a commitment she has with me too ‘cause she comes every day,” says Lucia.

“We as human beings barely share things with others but animals sharing things with other animals is a lesson for us.”
